Eggleston's Photography Biography

Hollywood Camera GuildHaving read "The Little Engine That Could" just one time too many as a child, Eggleston long ago expunged the word impossible from his vocabulary.

Steve Eggleston - PhotographerEggleston's eclectic career spans more than 45 years and almost as many disciplines. He honed his spot news, photo-journalism and people skills on diverse photographic assignments ranging from White House and embassy row receptions to West Virginia coal mines and Oklahoma Indian reservations. Accepted into the Holloywood Camera Guild.in 1971, he was already a credentialed, working press photographer for News Media Pictures in D.C. when he earned his diploma in professional photography in 1972.

National AirportHis background as a structural steel designer and draftsman piqued his interest in architectural photography. He organized, operated and managed the photography, printing and presentations departments for a full-service Architectural, Engineering and Construction Management partnership in Alexandria, Virginia. He furthered his architectural photography studies under Julius Schulman at Iowa State University.

Studio SetupHis commercial and studio experience expanded during his time as Studio Manager at the Capitol Hill studios of Salsbery Studios/UPI Compix. Assignments ranged from small product and catalog photography to fashion and food.

Image InspectionEggleston's technology background again came into play in his role as Technology Director and Studio Manager at the Forte Group, a Washington DC Area graphic design, photography and computer graphics company. Soon, Eggleston was recruited to manage the film processing lab and optical effects department at ImageMatrix, another Virginia computer imaging and design studio.

He later returned to the Forte Group as a consultant to the president, where he implemented and managed a variety of computer imaging systems. He designed, manufactured, installed and serviced G.R.I.P.S. As digital imaging services began to demand Internet connectivity his consulting work soon expanded into Internet development and Web design.

St. Francis VineyardsHis exposure to the Wine and Spirits industries began in 1998 when he designed and produced an Internet presence for Kobrand Corporation, a major importer and distributor of wines and spirits. Time spent photographing vineyards in Napa reignited the photography spark, and after Ten years in the industry he reopened his consulting business, allowing him the freedom to pursue his many interests on his own terms.

AFIO MemberThroughout his career in private enterprise, it was rumored that he was recruited, trained and retained by a disputed number of three-letter agencies. He cannot and will not confirm nor deny those absurd allegations, as neither will they, assuming they exist.

You, however, may be the judge when you evaluate the results of his engagement and his insights into government operations and the intelligence and security communities in general. He is an active member of the Association for Intelligence Officers, an ARPANET veteran, and has been an Internet Innovator since before the Internet was the Internet.
